UPDATES COMING SOON: It has been a crazy year so far as we've continued to compete (sometimes well, other times not so well) and gear up for our first ever visit to the
American Royal Invitational, held in early October 2009. In the meantime, be sure to check out our
blog for ongoing updates throughout the season!
New York State BBQ Grand Champions!!!
That's it. SmokeInDaEye.com's last contest of 2008 and it was a good one! We started the year with a grilling Grand Championship then grabbed our first ever KCBS sanctioned BBQ Grand Championship at the Battle of the BBQ Brethren in Sayville October 25-26,2008. While the rain soaked our site Saturday night, it didn't dampen our spirits and we cooked through the night to beat out 42 other amazing teams. Got some prize money, some trophies, a proclamation from the Governor, a new grill and a sh#t eating grin!!!!
First Call in Brisket: Blues, Views & BBQ
Westport, CT played host for the first time ever to the Blues, Views and BBQ festival, attracting thousands of visitors and 35 top teams from across the Northeast. The weather was perfect, the contest was perfect and we came home not only with a fourth place call in chicken (after trying a band spankin' new recipe) but our first call ever in brisket -- 2nd Place. And fifth overall, just behind our good friends R2BQ who took home their first Grand Championship.
Two-peat at New Holland SummerFest
Well, we made it back from Amish country and it was a blast! The competition was TOUGH, and turning 6 categories in 3 hours was tougher. I was really happy with the way everything worked out and felt like the scores reflected it.
We now have a two-peat victory in sausage and got a call in pork shoulder. Overall we were 17th out of 72 teams, not bad against some of the best in the country!
